They both feature pre-built templates, intuitive page editors, simple dashboards, and even user-friendly setup wizards to help with onboarding.
After signing up for Leadpages, a setup wizard will help you to get started. The first thing you’ll do is answer a few questions about your business, goals, level of knowledge, and what you plan on using Leadpages for.
Leadpages will use all this information to tailor your experience so that it’s as easy to use as possible.
In your main dashboard, you’ll see a ‘getting started’ tutorial screen showing your progress in learning how to use the platform.

Speaking of the page builder, it couldn’t be easier to use. You can drag and drop everything on the page, and changing the layout/design is a breeze.
There’s a limited number of widgets and things you can do, which limits flexibility and makes it a lot simpler and easier to navigate.
Leadpages’ main dashboard is also easy to navigate.
Everything you need is neatly laid out and easily accessible within a couple of clicks from the side navigation bar.
Like Leadpages, Unbounce greets you with a setup wizard when you first sign up.
You’ll be asked to fill out a short questionnaire with details about your business and how you plan on using Unbounce so that they can better tailor it to your needs.
Once you’ve done that, the guided setup wizard will then help you to start building your first page.
The Smart Builder’s Design Assistant will ask you some questions about what type of page you want to build and then use that information to create the perfect page for you.

When you first start building a page in the Classic Builder, you’ll notice that Unbounce provides a ‘training template’ with instructions to help you get the hang of it. It’ll walk you through the process of how to build pages in the Classic Builder step-by-step.
The Unbounce dashboard is laid out in a similar way to Leadpages, with the main navigation bar on the left, from which you can access all the main features, including your pages, popups and alert bars, and integrations.
It’s easy to navigate but perhaps not quite as easy as Leadpages. I found the lighter theme of the Leadpages dashboard to be easier on the eyes, and Unbounce felt a little more cluttered.
I also struggled to figure out how to edit existing pages from the Unbounce Pages tab (without deleting and starting from scratch), as this wasn’t clear at all.
The same goes for the page builder interfaces. I personally found Leadpages’ more minimal, lighter page building interface to be easier to use than Unbounce’s darker, more cluttered classic page builder. If we look at them side-by-side, you should be able to see what I mean.

Overall, it’s a tie.
The Smart Builder is a fantastic time-saving feature and makes the page building process on Unbounce very easy for complete beginners. Unbounce also gets top marks for its guided setup process.
However, the actual interface (both inside the page editor and on the main dashboard) felt easier to work with on Leadpages than on Unbounce. Leadpage had much less clutter and a lighter theme, so it was easier to find what you were looking for.

If you’re not keen on spending too much time designing your pages from scratch, then templates are a must.
Fortunately, both platforms provide a ton of professionally-designed templates for users to choose from. The question is: which is best? Let’s find out.
Leadpages provides customers with a wide array of landing page templates – over 500 in total.
There’s a template for everything, from individual landing page templates to full website templates. They also offer additional templates for sticky bars and pop-ups.
With so many to choose from, you might think that selecting a template using Leadpages would be tough.
However, it’s extremely easy to filter your search and find exactly the template you’re looking for. You can filter them by collections, page type, industry, style, and even color.
Additionally, all templates on Leadpages are mobile-responsive, so you don’t need to worry if a lot of your traffic comes from mobile devices.
Leadpages constantly updates its template portfolio and promotes new designs based on the time of year.
For example, they feature their holiday landing page templates at the top of the page around Thanksgiving and Black Friday, making it super easy to create landing pages quickly for limited-time events.
Unbounce has slightly fewer landing page templates on offer than Leadpages does. In total, there are over 100 different options to choose from.
They have templates available for everything from generic landing pages to sticky bars and popups, so it’s super easy to create all of your lead generation elements in just a few clicks.
One of the most helpful things about Unbounce templates is that many of them are named after the kind of businesses they’re suitable for.
For example, you can choose the O-SaaS template if you’re creating a SaaS landing page. You can also filter the templates by campaign types such as sales, lead generation, and products.
You can even make use of the templates helper, which finds templates for you based on your answers to questions about your campaign.
This makes finding the most suitable template for your needs hassle-free and fast. The website also states that ‘dozens’ of the templates are mobile responsive, but it’s unclear exactly which ones are.
Overall, the templates available from Unbounce are high-quality and professional and have all been optimized with conversions in mind.

When it comes to templates, Leadpages is the best landing page builder available. They offer a wider range of templates to choose from, but Unbounce offers some useful features such as the template helper that can help you select the right template for your needs.
Landing Page Editors
People mainly use Leadpages and Unbounce to build landing pages, so you’d think that they’d both have really great page editors – and they do!
However, we wanted to find out which had the best landing page builder, so we tried them out for ourselves. Here’s what we found out.
To build a page with Leadpages, you just click Start Building on your chosen template. This will open up the drag and drop editor.
What struck us most about Leadpages page builder is how clean it looks. They’ve kept the interface really simple, with a large live preview screen in the center and an easy-to-navigate sidebar on the left-hand side.
You can drag and drop elements around the screen or click them to change the style options. When you’re dragging and dropping, you’ll notice that modules ‘snap’ into set positions – you can’t move them around with complete freedom.
From the Layout tab, you can make changes to your page sections.
For example, you can change the background image for each section, add animations (so that sections ‘fly in’ or ‘shake,’ etc., upon scrolling down the page), and toggle the visibility off or on for different devices.
If you want to add new Sections, you can drag and drop them onto the page from the Sections tab. You can choose from various pre-made sections, including FAQ sections, About sections, CTAs, and more.
The Widgets tab is where you can find and add elements to your page sections. These widgets (i.e. modules) include things like images, videos, forms, buttons, icons, countdown timers, and more. Pro users can also add checkout widgets.
You can customize all of your widgets individually. For example, you can open up your form widget settings to change form fields, click events, etc.
From the Styles tab, you can change styling elements like page fonts, button colors, and backgrounds; and from the Settings page, you can add SEO data, social settings, etc.
One of our favorite things about Leadpages page builder is the Leadmeter. We’ll talk about this more later, but it basically offers guidance on how to better optimize your page for conversions.
You can preview the pages you build in Leadpages before you publish them to see how they’ll look on desktop, mobile, and tablet (but you can’t edit how your pages look on each device independently).
Once you’re done, you can publish pages to your Leadpages subdomain or upload them to your existing website.
Overall, I liked Leadpages page builder. It was easy to get the hang of and allowed me to put together a high-converting page in half the time it would have taken if I’d used a general-purpose page builder.
However, there were a few things I didn’t like.
First off, the page builder felt sluggish from time to time. It took a while for the preview screen to load, and moving elements around the page sometimes felt clunky.
It was also not all that flexible. There were limits to what I could do with it, and the whole experience felt a little boxed in.
With Unbounce, you get not just one but two page builders: the Smart Builder and the Classic Builder.
To build your first page, click All Pages and Create New. Next, it’ll ask you which of the two page builders you want to use.
The Classic Builder is more flexible and gives you more control (you can choose your own template and do some things you can’t do on the Smart Builder) but is a little harder to get the hang of.
The Smart Builder gives you less control but is a lot quicker and easier to use. It simplifies the page-building process by taking care of most of it for you.
Plus, because it generates the foundations of your page around a design that it predicts will perform best for your industry and goals (based on data from over 1.5 billion conversions), you’re more likely to get a finished product that converts as effectively as possible.
It’s also worth noting that the Smart Page builder is still in Beta testing, so there are a few bugs that Unbounce is still ironing out.
One thing we really liked about the Classic Builder is how flexible it is. You can drag and drop elements around the page with complete freedom.
You don’t have to stay within set parameters (rows and columns) as you do with Leadpages, and elements don’t snap into position – it’s pixel-precise.
We also liked how you can quickly create multiple page variations from the same interface. All you have to do is click Variant A from the top navigation bar and then select Create Duplicate from Variant A.
This will automatically clone your page as a new variant. You can then make changes to each page variant independently and use them in split tests to work out which performs best.
We didn’t like the Classic Editor because of how cluttered it was. There’s a lot going on on the screen compared to Leadpages. It can feel a little overwhelming if you’re a complete beginner.
The Smart Builder offers a totally different experience. It features a bunch of cutting-edge features that allow you to make pages that convert better in less time.
First, you tell the AI-powered Smart Builder what kind of page you want to build (it asks about industry and purpose). Then, it generates a recommended template based on what Unbounce has observed works well for pages like yours.
You can change the page style, then if you’re happy with what Unbounce has suggested, click Edit Page to open up the Smart Builder editor.
This editor is a lot simpler than the Classic Builder, but it’s also more limited. You can’t drag and drop sections and modules freely, but you can reorder them within the page.
You can also change the design of each element on the screen, rearrange or hide certain content, and change the page settings.
Under the Apps tab, you can connect tools that help you get more out of your landing pages. Right now, as it’s still in Beta, there’s only one available app: Typeform. This allows you to create multi-step forms and add them to your page.

Unbounce’s page builder is undoubtedly more powerful than Leadpages. It offers two different builders, each of which offers cutting-edge technology to make your page building experience better.
That being said, we still think Leadpages’ page builder is easier to use. If you want to keep things simple and aren’t interested in all the bells and whistles, it may be the better option.
Pop-Ups and Sticky Bars
With Leadpages, it’s really easy to create and deploy popup offers and alert bars on your site.
The popup builder works just like the landing page builder. The drag-and-drop interface and wide range of templates mean that even total web design beginners can create a professional and well-optimized pop-up or alert bar in just a few minutes.
Once your pop-ups and alerts are ready to go live, you have a range of options to choose from to determine how and when users view your alerts. You can choose to display popups at different points throughout a user’s site visit.
Leadpages allows you to use trigger events such as a customer clicking a button or image, delays, and exit-intent, to determine when the popup should be displayed. When it comes to targeting, though, that’s about the extent of Leadpages features. Compared to what you can do with Unbounce, this barely scratches the surface.
With Unbounce, you can create regular pop-ups or sticky bars, which are similar to alert bars that can stick at the top of a page as the user scrolls.
To create sticky bars and popups, you can start from scratch or choose from a selection of optimized templates. Unbounce also offers a range of targeting and customization options that exceed the options Leadpages offers.
Just like you can with Leadpages, you can customize exactly when your users are presented with pop-ups and sticky bars. However, you have a little more control over when you display your popups and sticky bars than you do with Leadpages.
You can choose from five different points within the customer journey, including upon arrival, after a delay, when the user is scrolling, after a click, or when a user is leaving the page.
You can also customize how often your visitors see your offers and select whether or not to show returning visitors the same popups or promotions.
Unbounce also offers some more advanced popup targeting features available to customers on the Accelerate and Enterprise plans. You can use factors like location, traffic source, and cookie targeting to determine which popups or sticky bars each visitor sees.
Unbounce even has a dynamic text replacement feature (used mostly by Google Ad specialists and agencies) that customizes the headline of your popups and sticky bars based on what a customer has searched for on Google.
For example, if they searched ‘glasses for oval faces,’ your pop-ups and offers will automatically change to include ‘oval faces’ in the offer copy when that user lands on your site.
