An all-in-one platform, business solution, and online course software.
You’ve probably heard Kajabi described in all sorts of ways.
But is Kajabi an LMS?
Technically, Kajabi offers some essential features typically found in an LMS. However, it doesn’t provide all tools that a complete Learning Manage System would offer.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what an LMS is, why Kajabi isn’t one, and what are some LMS features Kajabi offers.
What is an LMS?
A Learning Management System (LMS) software allows educators to create, deliver, and manage online learning courses and programs.
Some popular features of LMSs include hosting digital course materials, creating assignments and assessments, tracking student progress, and facilitating communication between students and instructors.
While there are many different LMSs on the market, they all share the same goal of providing an effective and efficient way to manage online learning.
In recent years, the use of LMSs has skyrocketed as more and more educators turn to online learning to meet the needs of their students. The estimated number of LMS users as of 2020 is 73.8 million, according to Research.com.
If we based the description of an LMS simply on features, then Kajabi would qualify. However, there’s more to an LMS than meets the eye.

The Key Differences Between LMSs and Online Course Platforms
The Learning Management System and e-Learning/Online Course Platform (OCP) overlap in some areas.
For example, you can use both to:
- Host and deliver online courses
- Create assignments and assessments
- Track student progress
However, LMSs are more comprehensive systems designed for larger organizations, such as universities and large businesses.
LMSs often come with complex features and reporting tools that can be overwhelming for individual instructors or smaller organizations.
Most Learning Management Systems are also expensive. For example, the licensing fee of Absorb can cost you $800 a month. This doesn’t include the setup fee, which usually costs $3000.
In contrast, online course platforms are much simpler and easier to use. They are manageable for individual instructors and small businesses.
Moreover, online course platforms are more affordable. And although Kajabi is in the mid-range of pricing for course platforms, it’s still a fraction of the cost of an LMS.
So What is Kajabi?
Based on the definitions and descriptions above, it’s safe to say that Kajabi is not a full LMS. But I like to consider Kajabi as somewhere in between.
Kajabi is more of an online course platform with some important LMS features.
It’s designed to be simple and easy to use so that anyone can create a beautiful and professional online course without any technical knowledge.
Unlike most LMS platforms, you don’t need an IT department to run Kajabi.
At the same time, it allows you to do more than host your content. You can also create assignments, track student progress, and integrate your payment gateway to start selling courses online.
Kajabi has some tools that make it better than your average online course platform.
For example, it has better marketing features like the email marketing tool and the ability to create blogs, landing pages, sales funnels, and more.
Although it’s good in most parts, here are some of the things you can’t do with Kajabi because it’s not a full-fledged LMS:
- Providing certificates and badges. Kajabi does not have any built-in features for issuing certificates or badges.
- Generating detailed reports. Kajabi only has a few basic reports, such as successful online course completion and student progress report.
- Data migration. You can’t easily transfer your courses from Kajabi to other online platforms. The only way to do it is through manual export.
- Grouping students. Kajabi doesn’t have any features for grouping students into cohorts or classes.
Top LMS Features of Kajabi
Course Creation
Kajabi offers an easy and user-friendly way to create courses. It has ready-made templates you can choose from depending on what kind of digital product you’d like to launch.
For example, you can build regular online courses, mini-courses, and drip courses. What’s great about Kajabi is that you can launch your courses in just a few clicks.
Moreover, you can offer other digital products on Kajabi, such as membership sites, online coaching programs, and even digital products like ebooks and templates.
All of these can be created with Kajabi’s simple drag-and-drop editor. You don’t need to know how to code or hire a developer to create beautiful courses on Kajabi.
Quizzes, Surveys, and Assessments
Like a common LMS platform, Kajabi allows you to create assessments and quizzes. You can use these features to:
- Test your student’s knowledge
- Create fun and interactive content
- Get feedback from your online courses
Assessments are a great way to measure your student’s progress and understanding of the material. They can also help you identify which parts of the course need more work.
Although Kajabi’s quiz and survey features are not as robust as other LMS platforms, they’re still helpful in increasing engagement with your courses.
Basic E-commerce Features
Besides the marketing tools, Kajabi has basic e-commerce features that allow you to sell online courses and other digital products quickly.
You can create a checkout page, offer different payment options, and provide coupons and discounts with Kajabi.
This allows you to provide a great buying experience for your customers and increase sales.
For example, you can offer multiple payment plans so your customers can pay for your courses in installments.
You can also roll a discount or offer a coupon code to sweeten the deal and encourage people to buy your courses.
CRM / Student Management
The most crucial feature of any LMS is the ability to track student progress and manage their data.
Kajabi’s CRM features are basic but still helpful for your online school or business.
This platform allows you to automate processes like sending emails, access, and coupons.
You can also import your contacts from other platforms, segment them into different lists, and send targeted emails.
Additionally, Kajabi lets you see your student’s progress and activities inside Kajabi Analytics. This feature helps monitor student engagement and gather valuable information for future strategies.
You can integrate Google Analytics with your account if you want to collect more data.
Summary
Kajabi may not be a full-fledged LMS, but it’s still a great platform, especially if you’re running a small online school or a digital business.
It’s more advanced than other course platforms and has all the primary LMS tools so you can launch, market, and sell your courses.
Moreover, Kajabi is easy to use and requires no technical skills. So it’s like getting the best of both worlds – an easy-to-use platform with powerful features.
