What Is Convertbox?
ConvertBox is an easy-to-use drag-and-drop tool that allows you to create lead capture forms with many dynamic targeting features quickly.
There are two categories of ConvertBoxes.
Overlay & Embedded.
Of these two types, there are ConvertBox Templates that you can choose from:

Who Is Convertbox For?
I can see multiple use cases for ConvertBox.
First Use Case: Grow Your Email List (Bloggers, Ecommerce Websites, Course Creators)
The first and obvious one is for those who want to capture emails to grow their email list (without a monthly payment).
If you want to grow your email list and test multiple test variations to get more emails with A/B split tests of different ConvertBox types, then ConvertBox is the perfect option.
You can even try out quizzes or segmentation opt-in forms, target specific URLs, and exclude URLs that you don’t want your ConvertBox on (thank you pages, category pages that aren’t relevant, sales pages, etc.)
Second Use Case: Capturing Leads for Your Local Business or Clients (Agencies, Small Businesses, etc.)
At Instinct Marketing, our marketing agency, we use ConvertBox because of their lifetime deal. We like to cut costs where we can.
Our agency focuses on helping local service-based businesses get more leads.
We use ConvertBox for exit-intent opt-in forms on our clients’ websites and landing pages (for Google Ads) to capture more leads.

Who Convertbox Was Not Built For
Convertbox is NOT built for people who like monthly payments 😉
No, but really, ConvertBox is powerful, but it’s not for everyone.
It’s not a full-page builder that can make custom URL links. You must have your website already.
For some, this is a deal-breaker.
However, for everyone else with an existing website, ConvertBox is a no-brainer.
I’ll talk about this more in the Cons section, but you also can’t export leads.
ConvertBox doesn’t hold on to the information of the users who filled out your ConvertBox. Convertbox integrates with popular email software that can house your contacts.
Key Online Business Highlights of Convertbox
ConvertBox Lifetime Deal Is Coming to an End
ThriveCart, the shopping cart platform, acquired ConvertBox. That means that the Lifetime deal could be ending anytime now.
While there hasn’t been any official word on it, all bets are off. There is new ownership, and that changes a lot of things.
If you want to get in on the ConvertBox lifetime deal, then you best get in now.
Powerful Lead Segmentation
Segmentation options are one of the essential features that a lead generation tool can have.
Whether you have a lot of traffic coming to your website or just a little, segmentation can be crucial for sending the right message and is a sound marketing strategy.
For example, with ConvertBox, you can create highly personalized offers to suit your visitors’ interests and goals by segmenting them with questions.
Here’s an example from ConvertBox’s website:
Each option leads the user down a different opt-in.
The options here are endless.
With health and fitness, for example, you could ask, “What’s your fitness goal” and have the following options:
- Lose weight
- Build muscle
- Increase endurance
- Gain flexibility
If they click on “lose weight,” they would get an opt-in form for a PDF on weight loss.
If they click on “build muscle,” they would get a different opt-in form for PDF on building muscle.

On top of this, to hone in your lead generation efforts, you can tag your website visitors based on what “path” they went down.
It Rivals Other Lead Generation Tools Like Optin Monster and Thrive Leads, Except With No Monthly/Annual Billing
As someone who has used both Optin Monster & Thrive Leads and other major marketing tools, I can say that ConvertBox can do almost everything that they can do.
Oh yeah, and it’s cheaper and a 1-time payment.
In fact, Optin Monster’s Pro plan is $564 for one year, and that only includes three sites.
With ConvertBox’s Elite Plus plan, you have 50 sites that you can use CB on for only $590.
We’ll talk about pricing in a little bit, but that is insane.
Also, because Convertbox is a relatively newer tool than Optin Monster and Thrive Leads, it is easier to use than those tools. It also looks WAY more modern.

While this is a ConvertBox review, it wouldn’t be complete without showing you everything it can do.
Let’s go through a lot of the features that made me fall in love with ConvertBox.
Drag & Drop Editor (& Ease of Use)
With the number of features that ConvertBox offers, it’s straightforward to use.
The ConvertBox editor is simple and doesn’t take long at all to get used to.
With the ConvertBox templates built-in, you can start collecting more leads fast.
You can customize your lead collection forms with a lot of different elements, which include:
- Countdown Timers
- Custom HTML
- Progress Bars
On top of that, you also have a good amount of customization options for each element.
In the ConvertBox editor, you can have 1 or 2 columns for your form (see above).
You can also change:
- Font sizes & colors
- Background colors or images
- You can hide certain elements on mobile (more on this soon).
You pretty much have full customization for all the features found in the editor.
Multiple Form Options
With ConvertBox forms, you have four different types.
You have specific display options and triggers (i.e., Exit pages, Modal opt-in, etc.), which we will talk about soon.
And, with all of these four types, if you ever want to change them, you can convert existing boxes into a different type and keep all the same customizations you had.
Let’s go over each type.
Sticky Bar (Top or Bottom)
You’ve seen these on a lot of websites.
You can use these types of ConvertBoxes for lead generation or a specific call to action for first-time visitors.
You can even use it to let your visitors know about your site-wide discounts.
The only catch is that you don’t have much room to work with, so make the copy count.
The Callout Modal is a type of slide-in pop-up that you can use to transform opt-in CTAs into something less intrusive. It’s one of the trendy slide-in styles that you can use for more leads.
Instead of popping up onto the entire screen or at the top of the page, it only shows up on a small bottom right or left corner of your screen.
As lead generation software goes, not many have this type of pop-up.
You can use this also for a video slide-in or send the same message to existing visitors about a new blog post you just released.
A call to action that is less important is what this is useful for.
The center modal is the most common lead generation pop-up that you see.
Many use this to show off their lead magnet and for a good reason.
It’s intrusive and annoys a lot of visitors.
With that being said, as a lead capture tool, it produces more leads.
The Center Modal has been the best popup type for my website and different landing pages that we used for clients.
Full Page Pop-Up
Full Page popups are intrusive, yes, but they have been shown to work.
There are many use cases for this type of popup.
You can use it to show one of your dynamic multiple-choice quizzes or for simple lead generation. The possibilities are endless.
Form Field Options
You can use ConvertBox for different types of lead generation.
For an online business, you can ask for only an email, and for a local business, you can do location-specific brand promotion and ask for an email and a phone number.
It really depends on the type of business you have.
For example, one of our local clients makes custom cabinets.
We use ConvertBox as one of their lead generation software tools.
Our client wanted to know what type of cabinet they wanted before they ever talked to the lead.
So, we added a dropdown to the form:
This specific ConvertBox was an exit intent pop-up.
You could easily add dropdowns and checkboxes to your forms for easy tagging as well.
For our use case, we used this simply for letting the client know what they could expect when they call the lead.
Actions After Submission
You can use ConvertBox on Mobile, but editing is limited.
You’re only allowed to hide & resize elements on mobile, and that’s about it.
Display Options (Triggers & Rules)
There are many different trigger options for your ConvertBoxes.
- Time on Page
- It shows up after a certain amount of time
- Scrolling the Page
- You can choose a % of the page length
- Period of no activity
- If the mouse doesn’t move for a certain amount of time that you set.
- Clicking a link on the page
With these trigger options, there are also other rules you can set as well:
URL Inclusion & Exclusion Options
By default, all Convertboxes are set to show on all pages of the website it’s installed on. This is fine. Most websites do this, but it might not be a good idea.
If you have a weight loss opt-in box pop up on your muscle-building article, the opt-in rate will be low.
Why not show your weight loss opt-in to people who read your weight loss articles right?
As you can see in the image above, this specific ConvertBox is set to show on all pages of my website except for URL’s containing:
- Rogue (review product)
- Kinobody (review product)
If you have specific lead generation opt-ins that don’t make sense for product reviews, as I do, then you can exclude them.
If you review a bunch of vacuum products, for example, you can exclude all URLs that include the word “review.”
This can save you a lot of time if you have a ton of review URLs since you don’t have to put them in 1 by 1.
Own Targeting Rules For Specific Visitors
If you want to target visitors from existing traffic and exclude anyone new, you can do that.
If you only want to target repeat customers, you can do that.
If you want to target site visitors only or site visitors from a specific referring website, you can do that too.
There are a ton of options for targeting:
As you can see, you have a ton of options for targeting specific visitors.
You can even show a different ConvertBox based on tags in your email service provider (I use ConvertKit).
You can see the ConvertKit options at the bottom of the image.
Depending on the nature of your business or your client’s business, this can be powerful.
ConvertBox has multiple steps that you can use for forms.
The use cases for this are:
- Quizzes (if they click a specific button, it leads them to a specific step and certain path)
There are endless possibilities for Quizzes, so I won’t get into it, but this is how you would make a quiz.
You can also apply a value to each button so they end up where you want them to end up based on their choices.
- No redirect to a thank you page or URL
The GIF above shows that the 2nd step is a “Thank You Step.”
Once someone puts their email in, they get taken to the next step.
Therefore I don’t need a Thank You page. It just tells them what to do and expect.
Easy A/B Split Testing
A/B split tests are so easy to use in ConvertBox.
You can change anything you want about each variation.
You can even change the style of the form itself.
In this case, I’m split testing out the same offer with the same headline and color but with different form types.
So far, it looks like the sticky bottom bar is winning, but not by much:

Scheduling Options For ConvertBox
Yes, you can schedule the start date and time-based on your computer’s time zone.
Depending on what type of offers you run, you can use this for a lot of discounts, deals, etc., and test out what works.
What email service providers does ConvertBox integrate with?
Here’s a list:
- HTML Forms
- Google Analytics
What’s not listed are email notifications, but they are available.
Essentially, if you only want an automated email to notify you about new leads via email, you can.
No integration is needed.
You can also put your client’s email, your VA/employee(s), etc.
Lead Magnet Stats (Not Just # of Leads)
If you’re serious about lead generation, then you want to know:
- Where your leads are coming from
- The amount of “views.”
- The amount of “conversions” (leads)
- The conversion rate
- The interaction rate (depending on if you have multiple steps)
These are all essential things to know to optimize and maximize your opt-in conversion rate.
Not to say that mine are perfect, but they have helped me realize what offers suck and which don’t at a glance.
WordPress Plugin & Other Installation Options
ConvertBox has a nifty WordPress plugin you can use to allow for more targeted options across your website.
It doesn’t offer any extra functionality itself. It’s merely something you install and never touch again on WordPress. It’s all still handled in ConvertBox.
That’s how we use it on our landing page builder for our marketing agency.
Where Convertbox Falls Short
Okay, I’ve spent plenty of time praising ConvertBox in this lengthy ConvertBox review.
It’s time to get into the cons.
Mobile Editing Sucks
This wouldn’t be a genuine ConvertBox review if I didn’t bash on at least a couple of things.
The mobile editor of ConvertBox is limited.
While it has gotten a LOT better over the years, it just still isn’t “there” wherever there might be.
Sure, you can hide items and change image sizes, but you can’t even change the font size of the button text.
I don’t understand.
Also, you can hide things on mobile but not on Desktop.
Sometimes, some elements are only better on mobile and not desktop.
Anyway, mobile editing is okay. Not great, not absolute trash.
No Landing Pages
Don’t expect landing pages or that ConvertBox can host your ConvertBox on their URL.
You must have a website of some sort to use ConvertBox.
While this isn’t necessarily a con because it was never a selling point, some page builders come with native popup features.
Therefore, I thought it was necessary to mention it in this ConvertBox review.
Lead Stats Could Be Better
While I have no gripes with the information that ConvertBox already gives me, some will want more information.
There is no page-by-page data.
ConvertBox only tells you how the ConvertBox performed on its own.
If you wanted to test how specific pages performed, you would have to create multiple ConvertBoxes and only target one specific URL.
It’s possible, but it’s a hassle.
No Lead Data Storing
I know I praised how ConvertBox is great for those who do client work in this ConvertBox review, but there is one con that might be a deal-breaker.
ConvertBox doesn’t lead data.
I know this con matters to only a tiny percentage of you, but it is important.
There is no “export” button.
There is no “leads” dashboard where it shows everyone’s information.
The only way to get the user information into Google Sheets, for example, is through Zapier (via a webhook) or integrate it with email software that hosts your leads.
So, you would have to pay for Zapier to store leads automatically or connect them with your email tool of choice.
Or, you can set up email notifications, and at the end of every month (or however you do your reporting to your client), you would have to go through all the information manually and put it on a spreadsheet.
Rough, I know.
We recently started using Zapier because the manual process took too long, and there was too much room for user error.
With that out of the way, let’s go ahead and talk about ConvertBox pricing.
Convertbox Pricing (Lifetime Deal)
Did I mention there’s a lifetime deal?

Let’s talk about what’s included.
250,000 – 500,000 Views Per Month (Based On Account Level)
You get 250,000 views per month on the standard plan or 500,000 views per month on the Elite plan.
Depending on how much traffic you get, this might be important to you.
If you’re running ads, be wary of how fast this can fill up.
Available on 10 – 50 Sites (50 for Elite Account Level)
Ten websites are all you get on the standard plan.
We work with more than ten websites at our agency, so we opted for the Elite plan.
I’m not exactly sure what happens when we reach more than 50 websites, but I’ll update you when we get there.
If you only plan on using it for one website, and you’re not an agency, don’t worry about this.
Multiple Users (Up to 5 for Elite Account Level)
If you want your employees, VA’s, or anyone to access ConvertBox on your account with their logins, then you need the Elite account level.
As the owner of the account, I can give our employees their logins and, if I want to, I can only provide them with access to certain websites that I choose.
It’s a pretty neat feature for teams.
For all of the features that ConvertBox has to offer, it would be a 1-time price of $590 or $495 for the standard plan.

Our Convertbox Review Conclusion: Is It Worth It?
There are a ton of features that ConvertBox has for a lifetime price, and it’s very hard not to love it.
The cons are things that I can get over in my personal use case.
Again, as someone who has their own high-traffic blog and tries to capture more emails and does affiliate marketing, it’s a no-brainer for me.
On top of that, we also use it for some of our small business clients.
I’m saving myself a ton of money with this one tool!
In the end, ConvertBox has paid for itself multiple times already.

- Thrive Leads is part of the Thrive Suite ecosystem. It works best if you’re a part of it already. It has many of the same features as ConvertBox but at a yearly or quarterly price point. Yes, there’s A/B testing, exit popups, and more.
- OptinMonster has been around for a long time. It’s a well-known name in lead creation. It also includes various sorts of forms, more so than ConvertBox and a drag-and-drop builder, and more.
